As a seasoned professional in the technology industry, I have dedicated my career to innovation and solving challenging problems for national defense. With over a decade of experience, I have honed my skills in engineering and technology management, data science, software engineering, and leadership. In my current role I am leading the development of an end-to-end responsible AI and MLOps platform and standing up a new line of business in AI/ML with our customer base.
Careers in Business and Engineering Alumni Panel

Wesley Swieter is the project manager for The Colorado School of Mines/Arapahoe Community College Battery Workforce Challenge (BWC) team. The BWC collegiate competition is a three-year engineering competition that challenges North American universities and their community college partners to design, build, test and integrate an advanced EV battery pack into a Stellantis vehicle. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado School of Mines in May 2024, he is completing a master’s degree in Engineering and Technology Management (Mines 2025). Upon graduation, Wesley will be both a design engineer and project manager in the research and development department of Blue Print Engines, a Marshal Engines company.
Case Competition – Partner Company

Taylor Anderson completed her BS in chemical engineering and MS in engineering and technology management from the Colorado School of Mines and quickly found a passion for entrepreneurship. Coupling this with a love for makeup and deep concern for the types of chemicals we put on our faces and bodies, she founded Provanity Cosmetics to engineer clean makeup that lasts, bringing safer options to the beauty world.
Case Competition – Partner Company

Ben Schneiderman received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Mines in 2017 and his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from Mines in 2022. In the final year of his PhD, he co-founded HYSA Fillers to pursue commercialization of novel filler alloys developed through the design strategies he implemented during his graduate study. In addition to his role as HYSA Fillers’ CSO, he is employed as a Mines postdoctoral researcher, supporting several academic projects in the MME Department’s Center for Welding, Joining, and Coatings Research.
Case Competition – Partner Company

Jack Walters is the CEO and Co-founder of HapWare. As a student-athlete and Alumni at the Colorado School of Mines, Jack earned a degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s in engineering and technology management. He is passionate about developing human-centric, equitable assistive technologies that benefit people from all backgrounds. With extensive experience in user studies and market research, Jack ensures that the technologies he develops are designed to truly meet the needs of the people they serve.
Careers in Business and Engineering Alumni Panel

Evan Lim is the Pre-Sales Team Lead for North America at Ubisense. With a strong background in both software engineering and sales and customer engagement, Evan has experience driving pre-sales strategies and fostering client relationships. In his role at Ubisense, Evan has worked in various capacities over the years, including R&D engineer, solution engineer, software engineer, project manager, account executive, and team lead for the Americas Pre-Sales Group. Evan currently supports the aerospace and defense, transit, and pharmaceutical manufacturing verticals. His key accounts include Lockheed Martin Aero, Bell Helicopter, Parkland Refining, all US and Canadian transit customers and partners, AstraZeneca, Eaton, and Lonza. Evan holds both an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Computer Science from the Colorado School of Mines. Currently, Evan is completing a master’s in Engineering Technology Management, set to finish this spring also from the Colorado School of Mines.
Opening Ceremony Keynote Speaker

Andjela has spent the past few years integrating her academic expertise and professional experience to cultivate a multidimensional career at the intersection of science and business. Since earning her PhD in Chemistry in 2021, she has taken a series of intuitive steps toward consulting, beginning as a teaching professor, moving on to research at a battery startup, and later transitioning into consulting work. Most recently, she has worked as an independent consultant for a startup pioneering electrochemical precision resource recovery and continues to support emerging startups in their technical and business development needs. Central to Andjela’s life philosophy is a commitment to questioning convention and avoiding limiting labels. These principles have encouraged her to define her own career path led by curiosity and integrity. Beyond her professional pursuits, Andjela studies yoga and actively teaches classes in Denver, CO.
Business & Industry Presenter

Noelle Cochran, P.E., is a Vice President and Risk Management Director at AECOM. In that role, she helps coworkers identify and manage risk on architectural, environmental, and water projects. Her work experience includes business operations, engineering practice leadership, quality assurance leadership, client account management, project management for federal and private clients, and engineering consulting. She understands how strong engineering, business operations, and risk management lead to successful projects and business results. Noelle holds a civil engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines and is an active member several professional engineering organizations.
Business & Industry Presenter

Becky joined The Root Group in 2011 and has quickly grown her role and responsibilities into guiding the company into Managed Services in the renewable energy and construction markets. With over 25 years of experience in Information Technology, Becky has a great understanding of both the business and technical aspects of IT and has been able to partner with her clients to develop solutions that optimize cost, performance and compliance goals. Her past work experience includes roles as a teacher and technical project manager in telecommunications and at WebMD. A Michigan native, Becky graduated from Michigan State University and now calls Boulder her home.
Guest Speaker – Case Competition Framing Session

As a proactive and impactful finance leader with expertise in financial modeling, strategic analysis, and corporate development, I identify opportunities for revenue growth and influence high-level decision-making by presenting strategic, data-driven analyses to C-suite executives. I’ve established a reputation in the industry as a superb leader and cross-functional collaborator, guiding high-performing, accountable teams to exceed expectations.
Moderator – Careers in Business and Engineering Alumni Panel

Dr. Sheron Lawson has an extensive career in both corporate management and higher education. She was educated in the United States, where she attained a Doctorate in International Business Administration (DIBA) with Honors, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Information Systems, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biological Sciences. She has completed several certificates in courses such as Project Management, Financial Management, and Management Information Systems.
Dr. Lawson is a highly regarded business expert and management consultant. She has held several international corporate positions. She was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean, Inc. (IAC) in Barbados. In this capacity, she was instrumental in developing a five-year strategic plan and restructuring the Association at various levels, especially in effective operations management, strategic human development, and conference planning and implementation. Due to her influence, the Association forged collaboration with many regional and international organizations. Dr. Lawson worked with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat as an Organizational Development Specialist in Guyana, South America. She also worked as a project manager for the Kingston Restoration Company in Jamaica.
Before coming to Colorado School of Mines she was Associate Professor of Business Administration at Tennessee Wesleyan University. She was also an Associate Professor at Wayland Baptist University in the School of Business, where she lectured and supervised students in the Doctor of Management Program. She held Assistant Professorships of Business at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky, and McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. In Jamaica, Dr. Lawson lectured at the University of Technology, University College of the Caribbean, and Northern Caribbean University.
Dr. Lawson is renowned for her work experience in organizational development and executive coaching. Her professional work interests are organizational change and development, strategic management, and image building. She has researched, presented at conferences, and published on various management topics. Her doctoral thesis – Examining the Relationship between Organizational Culture and Knowledge Management was in the Top 10 reading dissertation in 2004 in the United States.

Case Competition
Overview
The NNC 2025 Case Competition will be a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their skills in business and engineering consulting. Teams of 3-4 will work with a partner company to explore opportunities and challenges faced by these dynamic startups. After being presented with a unique problem statement and working with their team for 4 hours, teams will present their findings during the culminating Case Competition Presentations and following Awards Ceremony.
Team assignments and partner companies will be announced Friday at 6:00 PM. Problem statements and company information will be available after the Case Competition Framing session on Saturday morning.

During this segment, each university chapter will have the opportunity to share a concise 5–7 minute presentation, highlighting their achievements, events, membership growth, and strategies for overcoming challenges. This interactive session fosters collaboration and mutual inspiration, offering valuable insights into the unique strengths and developments of each chapter.
